Vanessa became interested in education after post-college experiences working in non-profits that brought her into city schools in Baltimore, Maryland. After two years of teaching community ESL classes to adults there, she moved back to her native New Jersey to pursue the New York City Teaching Fellows program as a Secondary Special Education Fellow. During this time Vanessa taught at KAPPA International High School in the Bronx and earned her Masters Degree in Education at Hunter College. A humanities and arts oriented person, Vanessa was surprised to find she greatly enjoyed teaching science and discovered a new-found appreciation for the STEM field. Since then, Vanessa has been building her expertise in the life sciences, finding her niche as a Living Environment teacher for students with disabilities. She is a TLQP Fellow at City College and entering her fifth teaching. You can now find her working at Co-op City's Harry S. Truman High School in the north Bronx and living in Central Harlem.
