Susie knew she wanted to be a teacher after she spent time on missions in Alaska, teaching summer school to a hyper and challenging group of middle school students. Despite the long hours and crowded classes, she became determined to dedicate herself to social justice through education. Susie graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology and from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a master's degree in Secondary Education in Science. In 2005, she helped start a small school in the South Bronx, and has been teaching in New York City public high schools since then. In her schools, she has been the grade team leader, department coordinator, student government advisor, Outward Bound program liaison, and website manager. She is a Master Teacher in Math For America, and has been awarded fellowships through Fund for Teachers and the Earthwatch Institute. She joined the Sci-Ed Innovators in 2012 and has served as a Master Fellow and Director of Operations for the past 4 years.
