Pooja did not always know she wanted to be a high school biology teacher, but knew she wanted to dedicate her life to social justice. After spending 4 years working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and two years working as a retention coach for non-traditional college students, she applied for the New York City Teaching Fellows. It took two years for her to fall in love with teaching, but she now she can't imagine doing anything else. She is in her fourth year teaching, and currently teaches at a small high school in Queens serving students who recently immigrated to the United States and are learning English.
