Pearl decided to become a teacher after earning her B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University. She served in the Paterson, NJ public school system through the AmeriCorps Vista program for a year before being accepted into Math for America first as a Newton Fellow, then twice as a Master Teacher. She earned her M.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education from Teachers College Columbia University in 2006, and has been teaching in New York City public high schools since then. Within her schools, she has served as an Inquiry Team member, Professional Development facilitator, Mathematics Department Mentor and Coordinator. She is excited to enter her eleventh year in the STEM classroom and her first year in the Sci-Ed Fellowship.
